The JICHS Choral Program is a tight-knit group that works to bring high-energy, high-quality music to students. Students may take chorus throughout their entire high school career and even take honors credit in levels 3 and 4 when they want to go the extra mile and participate in state-level festivals. Students may respectively take Chorus 1, Chorus 2, Chorus 3, Chorus 4, Chorus 3 Honors, Chorus 4 Honors and/or IB Chorus according to appropriate level.
There has been quite an interest in the JICHS Choral Program, so much so, that the program has tripled since 2007! Students in the JICHS Choral Program have had the opportunity to participate in a wide-variety of activities including: The Charleston All-County Chorus, SC State Chorus Festival, the Young Americans Workshop, Charleston Concert Association, “In The Key of Awesome” (A new Show Choir/Glee Club), Hairspray & Grease Revue, Black Tie 1920’s Revue, and are currently staging a brand new musical, Flame for their upcoming May 29th 2010 musical.
These Choral courses are designed for students who have little to no experience in the choral setting and seek to develop choral skills. Students will develop an understanding of the concepts of music and the cultural heritage of the music studied as well as music theory skills. Students will learn: good tone, accurate pitch, and growth in music reading. All students are required to perform in all concerts and public performances.
